If you’re about to replace your missing tooth with a dental implant, it’s important to prepare for the treatment so you can increase your chances of success. So, to help you prepare for the surgery, our Laura Miller, DDS dental team encourages you to do the following things:

-Inform your dental professional about any medications you are taking, including over-the-counter and prescription drugs and supplements. You should also tell Dr. Laura Miller about any medical conditions you have. If you have a certain heart condition or if you have orthopedic implants, she might prescribe antibiotics before surgery to prevent infection.

-Consider your anesthesia options. Generally, Dr. Laura Miller will use local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia to control your pain. Talk to her about which option is best for you.

-Your dental team will give you instructions on what to eat and drink before surgery. Make sure you follow those instructions. This is important because the instructions will be based on the type of anesthetic you will receive.

– If you decided on using a strong anesthetic during the surgery, it’s best to ask a family member or friend to drive you home after the treatment.
